For a range of reasons-- not least of which is Dale's rather significant birthday next week-- we are now the proud owners of 22 sets of Tigers tickets. Between tonight and the end of the season, we will be going to 22 home baseball games. One of the reasons we actually bit the ticket bullet was the rather sudden difficulty in getting tickets. For the past 6 years, we've been able to walk up and get the tickets we want an hour before the game; as of this weekend, tickets for many games weeks away are sold out or are standing room only. Three years ago, we watched the Tigers go 43-119 and Dale, Dave and I were frequently one of a few small islands of fans whose ooohs and woo hoos bounced awakardly around the nearly empty ballpark. Tonight-- a Wednesday-- there were 39,593 people in attendance and the whole place buzzed all night. It's a radically different experience to watch a team that's not only winning but... well, I don't want to jinx it but let me just say these next 21 games are going to be very exciting.

Here's the end of Craig Monroe's grand slam homerun that made the game 5-2. Above is a night shot of Comerica on what turned into an absolutely beautiful summer night.
