One of my favourite literary prizes is the Orange Prize for Fiction. They just released the shortlist and the winner will be announced June 3. Here's the list. Sadly, your local academic library is at year-end so your friendly neighbourhood English librarian won't be able to order these for many weeks. WPL has two right now.
Scottsboro
Ellen Feldman
The Wilderness
Samantha Harvey
The Invention of Everything Else
Samantha Hunt
Molly Fox's Birthday
Deirdre Madden
Home
Marilynne Robinson
Burnt Shadows
Kamila Shamsie
Over the past few years, I've encountered some of my favourite new authors through the Orange Prize longlist and short list. If you're looking for something new to read, both lists are great starts. Also, check out previous winners and previous shortlists.
