In case you haven't heard, there's a been a labour dispute in Windsor which is entering its 15th week. Among other things, the strike has meant that grass has not been cut since the very early spring. At first people were outraged about the conditions of the parks but recently I've been hearing more and more people saying "wow, it's actually kind of pretty...." Pretty it is. This morning I rode my bike beside the park near my house and it was like biking in a meadow. I heard bees buzzing in the wildflowers and birds chirping and, most lovely of all, the sound of gentle winds in tall grasses. This accidental "rewilding" of Windsor is doing some amazing things: not only are we seeing birds that have not been seen in town for years, the city has decided that 100 to 200 acres of city parks will be left their natural state after the strike ends. Here are four shots from my morning bike ride.
