My poor garden. During the strike, keeping the weeds in the ground seemed like a better long-term strategy than letting them fester in a pile waiting for yard waste pick up. I've never neglected it so badly. In the past weeks, I've been able to remove some weeds and I've excited by a few surprises I've found.
When I first did some spring clean-up, I thought I'd lost two rose bushes (one that was in the garden when we bought the house and one that I'd planted) to winter kill. Early one morning last week, I was delighted to find a healthy looking sprout coming out of the older one. Just yesterday I was thrilled to see a rose on the newer one.

A cornflower from the seeds I purchased last March at the Butchart Garden

Hollyhocks growing beautifully behind my backyard fence. In the garden they've struggled.

Some time in the night last week, someone plunked this into my garden. I have no idea who or why.
