4 Shots: 4 Random Things from Our Detroit Day That Made Me Smile

4 Shots: The DIA is Good for the Soul

Today we went to see the new exhibit Government Support for the Arts: WPA Prints from the 1930s at the DIA which was pretty incredible. I was so overjoyed to be at the DIA on a sunny afternoon I could have hugged the building. I restrained myself and took some photos instead.

4 Shots: Finally.... time to cook

To celebrate having time to cook rather than merely reheat, I made a few things from the new Food and Drink: turkey cutlets with Madeira sauce, cider braised turnips with pumpkin seeds and cranberries and Cauliflower Soup with Spiced Pear Chips. Here are some photos of the soup.

4 Shots from a Happy Detroit Day

For whatever reason, we've not had a usual Detroit day for a while. Yesterday was sunny and warm and having our usual breakfast, art, lunch/ beer day made it all the more glorious.

In Flanders Fields

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved, and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders Fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders Fields.

4 Shots from Last Week: Salem, MA

I hadn't quite realized I booked my research trip in Salem during Halloween but it didn't take me long to realize I'd wandered into the Halloween capital of the world.
